Nuts, Bolts And Screws – It All Sounds The Same To Me

I have to admit, when it comes to DIY, tools and other “manly subjects”, I really consider myself a dummy! I will be able to bring you a certain size spanner and I have a good idea of what a hammer and a screw is, but if hubby will ever send me to the hardware to buy wall anchors, nuts or bolts I am afraid I will rather take my wallet and go grocery shopping – at least that’s something I understand!

That does not mean that I do not enjoy going to our local building supply store. So when hubby is in one of those “let’s fix the house” moods and stocking up on wall anchors and other things that I don’t understand, I am quite happy to browse the isles and look at all the various home improvement and home decoration tips and ideas that these stores also offer.

I think the gardening section is probably my favourite section in these kinds of stores. Whoever thought that it might be a good idea to have a gardening section in a typical DIY store sure had a great idea! In this section I feel totally at home and I can spend hours looking at the different plants, the beautiful pots on special and other gadgets and ornaments that I can use in my garden.

Our building supply store also has a section for the pets andblack bolts  I never go home without a chewy toy for our puppy and some wild birdseed for the bird feeder in the garden.

While hubby is browsing the home improvement section for his wall anchors, drills, pipes and handles, I will generally (once I’m done in the gardening and pet sections of course!) drag along and admire the different types and designs of curtain rods and window blinds and also “borrow” a couple of ideas for our house.

We will be moving into a new house shortly and I simply cannot wait to renovate the place! The only room in the house that freaks me out a bit is the kitchen. I am not sure what the previous tenants got up to in that kitchen, but I do know that new kitchen cupboards will be non-negotiable! I was initially quite daunted with the whole idea; because (or so I thought!) a new kitchen would cost at least an arm and a leg… I was however pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to design and built your own kitchen! Our building supplies store also offers shelves and cabinets, door handles, hinges and all the other tools necessary – so hubby will be able to build me the kitchen of my dreams!

So next time hubby mumbles something about wall anchors, sealant, spanners or paint, do not despair! Put on some lipstick and head to the store with him! You might also find beautiful pots, mirrors, blinds, curtain rods and other things that you actually understand! Just nonchalantly add it to the trolley and give hubby a beautiful smile… he will not be able to resist!
